Cigarette butt litter happens everywhere.
It’s not only a problem for city centers or other dense urban settings. Cigarette butt litter is persistent at beaches, recreation areas, along roadways, and at local events. Consider addressing the issue in these settings as well.
We were pleased and saw a big improvement over last year as there was an increased demand for ash receptacles, and reporting of cigarette litter rose. Media coverage was good and media are supportive.

In 2008, communities in three states implementing a Cigarette Litter Prevention Program on roadways and highways reduced cigarette butt litter by as much as 76% and an average of about 56%.
